Enter Sandman Behind the Fears.

"Enter Sandman" is simply about a child's nightmares and fears, and about how all the only thing to fear is fear itself (It's just the beasts under your bed, in your closet, IN YOUR HEAD).

The song begins with Metallica's normal long introduction then leading into the first verse: "Say your prayers little one don't forget, my son to include everyone" putting this verse into a thought process, it's basically saying the child should pray because danger is approaching and to make sure that the child keeps everyone they care for in that prayer to keep them safe from harm.

"Tuck you in, warm within keep you free from sin till the sandman he comes.." tucking in a child before they went to bed is said to ward off the evil sins of the "boogeyman" thus the line "keep you free from sin" saying nothing is going to hurt the little one. Throughout books and movies the only way to keep the boogeyman from attacking was to pull the covers over his/ her head.

"sleep with one eye open gripping your pillow tight exit light enter night take my hand we're off to never never land" because of the fear within, and most children won't get to sleep so they'll have one eye open gripping their pillow tight, exactly what the lyrics say. Doesn't get much more simple than that does it?

Turning the lights off and falling to sleep thus "exit light, enter night take my hand we're off to never never land.

Wrapping this up, "Enter Sandman" is a nightmarish-lullaby which is dealing with the nature of nightmares and a child's fear of entering the dreamscape and being constantly watched by an old man, the lord of the dreams and nightmares... the "sandman".
